Starting in March 2023, the Berlin publishing house “Aufbau Taschenbuch” will launch a series of novels about the Tietz family and their department stores. The story of the first volume, “Kaufhaus – Zeit der Sehnsucht” (“Department Store – Time of Desire”), begins in Stralsund in 1879, when the young seamstress Flora and her fiancé Leonhard Tietz move to the Hanseatic city, where they open their first retail store. We wish the publishing house every success with this book project, as it is an excellent opportunity to bring the history of the Jewish merchant family to a broad readership in an exciting way.
