Stolperstein Laying for the Dorn Family and Eugen Fenyves

On June 4, 2021, four more Stolperstein were laid by the Hansestad Stralsund, initiated by the “Initiative for the Remembrance of Jewish Life in Stralsund”. In Carl-von-Essen-Strasse 35, three members of the Dorn family are remembered who lived there since 1935 and were murdered in Auschwitz in 1943. Among them was daughter Eva, who was expelled from the Lambert Steinwich School in 1940 at the age of ten. The Kapellmeister Eugen Fenyves from Budapest is commemorated on the Theatervorplatz and Ossenreyerstrasse 41. He led the newly founded Philharmonic Orchestra of the Stralsund Theater from 1920 to 1927. Eugen Fenyves married the Stralsund theater dressmaker Helene Pietrula in 1920. He was killed on January 12, 1945 by the National Socialist Arrow Crossers in Budapest.

To commemorate former Jewish citizens in Stralsund, more Stolperstein are to be laid on the sidewalks in front of their homes or places of work. Donors are being sought for this purpose (one stumbling stone costs 120 euros). The Förderverein Historische Warenhäuser Wertheim und Tietz in Stralsund e. V. cooperates with participants and institutions, especially the “Initiative zur Erinnerung an jüdisches Leben in Stralsund” (Initiative for the remembrance of Jewish life in Stralsund) and issues donation receipts upon request.
